Mateo is a small hill (57m) named after a freed slave, Matthew, who continued
to live on the PortoMari Plantation after he obtained his liberty in 1850.
An attractive hiking trail along well maintained paths takes walkers to
the top of the hill. There are breathtaking views along the way and a
unique diversity of plants and trees. The trail starts at the back of
the parking lot, close to the Beach.
Lightweight summer clothing and suitable shoes are sufficient for the trip. Duration of hike: about 1 hour.
Weddings
Now-a-days you can get married practically anywhere on the island of Curaçao. Even at Playa PortoMari! And several couples have already chosen to do so. Arrangements need to be made well in advance, so if you are thinking of tying the knot and would like a wedding breakfast on the beach, contact us.

The very word "triathlon" conjures up images of top athletes of supernatural strength who compete in the Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon, where the distance is four times the Olympic distance! The Curaçao Off-Road Triathlon chooses the "Sprint Triathlon", which is half the Olympic distance — the competition starts with a 750 metre swim in the sea, followed by a 15 Km mountain bike course and lastly a 5 Km run. And now Plantages "PortoMari" has become the favourite location for local triathlon fanatics. Races starting at Playa PortoMari are held annually in October/November.
